External hard drives

External Hard Drives are a reliable method of protecting your important data. If you are currently using an external hard drive to protect your important data there is nothing wrong at all but there are limitations that need to be considered.
Do you take this hard drive off site?
If I do not take the drive of site if something happens to my pc is the same likely to happen to my backup device?
If I take the drive off site how often should I bring it on site to carry out a backup?
How much data is not being backed up in between backups?
How long will it take me to re trace my steps and put this data back on if something happens between backups?
